RE: Keystone unconcerned

I can't even figure the OP out. This is not a thread but a bunch of old threads pasted together. Don't even know what the letter from Keystone means.
I sure wouldn't cross off Keystone based on this post unless I knew much more.
I also agree the key to good service is the dealer. In my case, I didn't even buy from a local dealer (we don't have one). Bought it in AZ and I live in OR. We had a couple small problems and the dealer wanted an estimate from our local independent repair shop. They said "fix-it", paid the bill and then got reimbursed by Keystone.

RE: How much should we pay?

Personally, I'd try for more off. On the other hand I really think that is just a macho thing and won't make a bit of difference 3 months from now. Besides, if the dealer knows you really want it, he isn't going to come down to make you happy. Unless you are truly willing to walk away from it, and the dealer knows it, you aren't going to any 35% off.

RE: Does TT size matter?

18' used to a decent sized trailer. At 25' we are still one of the smallest in any private cg. Funny thing, though,go to a state park or forest service cg and there are a lot of smaller one as wells as campers and tents!

RE: It seems a boo boo every year!

I am absolutely certain if he cuts off 3' he will need it the next time you go camping. If he replaces it I'm also certain you will never need it!
Hey, don't feel bad. We've had used trailers and 5ers for 30 years. Finally bought a brand new one and you should see the list of things I've done to it. LOL

RE: Long Travel and water

What are you driving or pulling? Our Springdale has the tank under the floor all the way to the front of trailer. When we fill it because we will be dry camping and want to get to the site with a full 60 gallons, it totally throws off the Equal-i-zer. So we usually just run with about 1/3 full. But haven't yet figured out how to deal with a full tank so we just go down the road with the TV sagging in the rear. No way will I re-adjust the hitch for a one day pull.
WOOPS! Just noticed this was under Class C. My comments won't be relevant. Sorry for the post.

RE: $2.99 fuel cost

Gas cards are no different than low financing, low interest, or whatever. You will just get that much less off the retail price. A cash deal, bottom line, will almost always be in your favor.

RE: Frustrated with one of the RV dealers

I have found that with cars or rv's that negotiating will only help the dealer. You need to figure out what you will pay and that is it. If you need to, give the dealer a list of included items and say this is the price--yes or no. But you have to be willing to walk away. Just saying include everything is too vague. You need to be very specific--down to the brand and hitches, etc.

RE: What gear do you tow in?

Specs say your TT is 6800# dry. Add the options and water and I'll bet you are over 7800# loaded. Personally I would put it in 3rd and take it easy. I don't know if you have the same gear box as my Silverado but if I'm doing 3500 rpm in 3rd I'm going over 70 mph. Normally I can cruise in 3rd at around 2500 which is 60-62 mph.

RE: Western CO Mountains

We have visited CO many times and while we don't have a rig as big as yours, we've found most of the non-interstate roads just fine. Some are very steep and we may go up or down them very slow but I can't help but think unless you get off on some really back roads you would not have a problem. You just have to take your time.

RE: Lite Weight Travel Trailers

Find the style and size you want and then check all of them on the internet. Many that are not advertised as light weight are as lighter as many that say they are light weight. For instance, my 25' Springdale (not advertised as light) is as light as the equivalent Trail-Lite by R-Vision.

RE: Equal-I-zer WD Hitch

3. Apparently I need to try some grease. This setup made SO MUCH NOISE turning corners -- everyone stared at me pulling into gas stations because it sounded like the whole setup was about to snap off. CRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK!! Very scary.
Yep. Use some spray Lithium grease as the instructions say and it will quiet down. I recommend the teflon pads that Equal-i-zer sells. Those and a little grease on the ball and arm pivots will stop the noise completely.

RE: So you still want ot go fulltime? Are you nuts?

We're not full timers but just got back from a two month 6000 mile trip. We spent very little more than we would have had we stayed home. Sure we spent around $2000 on gas but saved close to that on other expenses. If we did not also still have house expenses we would have been ahead of the game.
We are considering full timing and gas and other increases just don't seem relevant. Sorry, nay sayers, but I just don't see how it has gone out of reach for all but those who probably shouldn't be doing it anyway because their budget is so tight.

RE: Planning a trip and need some advice

Amtrak is great but notoriously unreliable with scheduling. Often it will be right on time. But as many times can be hours behind schedule so make sure you have plenty of time between flights and trains. It is not unusual to get canceled completely because of rail problems.

RE: Unhitch Or Not

If an overnighter we almost always stay hitched unless we have to go to the store. Just lower the tongue jack to stabilize things. If I have the energy I will drop the rear jacks but often don't even bother to do that.

Used to have a Burro. Maintenance was close to zero. Nothing to go wrong. They withstand the elements great. A wax job every couple years and you are set to go.

RE: fresh water system sanitization

That's plenty strong. You need far less than that to kill any bugs when you are filling up in MX--I think it is just 1 tablespoon per 10 gal. of fresh water.
Common misconception.
The ratio you are using is to sanitize the WATER (from a questionable source), not the water SYSTEM.
Your ratio is drinkable, the ratio used for system sanitizing is not and needs to be flushed out. To actually sanitize the tank itself and the plumbing, you need a stronger ratio.
Agree totally. I was just using this as a comparison to point out that the OP's 1/3 cup was plenty.

RE: Trailer slipped off tongue jack blocks

For what it's worth.... I have a fairly steep driveway where I used to park the TT. I had the best luck with just a simple wooden wedge under the front edge of the tires (both sides). After I put them in place, I put the TV in neutral just to let it roll onto the chock to where it wanted to be. Then back into park and unhitch. it never moved after that.
Terry
I was having trouble with my electric jack "clunking" because the TT would move slightly when I was on a hill when I started raising it. A poster suggeste4d the above. Now the TT never moves a bit. As an added bonus, if it is going to move too much, you are still hooked up and can control it. Best advice I have gotten.

RE: opinions of campground ownership

Never buy potential. Ask to see his profit and loss and all financial records for the past five years. If he isn't making a decent profit and good living ask some hard questions about why. If he is not doing well there is a huge chance you won't either. To me it doesn't sound like a very good location. I've owned small businesses, never an RV park so I'm not expert, but you need a draw and you are saying there is none. National Forest's aren't going to do it.

RE: Anyone ever ordered replacement graphics

I damaged the mountain scene on my TT. Was told they have changed the graphic so it was a custom order and would be $250. I decided to live with the damage graphic! But they said it was easy to apply.
